About Greg

In addition to composing and arranging, Mr. Lapp has been a high school choral director for 36 years. He just retired from University High School in Fresno, CA where he conducted 5 choirs and taught AP Music Theory. Prior to that, he taught for 20 years in Bakersfield, CA at Foothill and Centennial High Schools. Greg has also been conductor of two adult choirs, The Fresno Choral Artists and The Symphony Singers in Bakersfield. His experience with these various classical choirs, show choirs, musical theater, and his popular and jazz music ensembles have greatly contributed to his writing and arranging style. Most of the pieces in his catalogue were written for these ensembles.

Greg also sang in barbershop quartets for 30 years, starting in high school with his father and two brothers, The Lapplanders. Much of his Barbershop experience was with the quartet Late Night Barbershop who competed in many International Contests placing as high at 20th. His barbershop arrangements have been performed around the world by a number of quartets and choruses.

Greg received a Master’s Degree in Music Theory and Composition in 1992 from Fresno State University where he studied with Dr. Jack Fortner. His Bachelor’s Degree is from Cal State Fullerton where he worked with David Thorsen and Dr. Harold Decker. He went to Bonita High School in LaVerne, CA.
