Snowbirds 2023

Solo Song

Duration 3:00

Text by Deborah Lapp

Notes

This song was inspired by the fact that my wife and I, in our retirement, have embarked on the life of the Snowbird; living Summer/Fall in Woodstock, NY and Winter/Spring in Sanger, CA. We really appreciate both sets of family and friends.

Text

We love Woodstock’s verdant, sumptuous summers,
Its cardinals, fireflies, and glorious orange-colored falls,
our comfy little cottage, cozies up to the Catskills,
The music, the hiking trails, the creeks, and all you all,
but…

It’s starting to snow. We gotta go.
Christmas in California.
Snow birds migrate when seasons change.
We pack the car and head home on the range
’cause it’s starting to snow. We gotta go for
Christmas in California.

Sanger means citrus and green mountain winters,
February blossoms and wildflower springs.
Our RiverHouse framed by oak-scattered hills
FamIly, friends, and the mighty Kings.

The wind starts to blow. We gotta go.
Christmas in California.
Bears start to hibernate when seasons change.
Load up the dogs and head home on the range
’cause it’s starting to snow. We gotta go for
Christmas in California.

Snowbirds in Cali are osprey and eagles,
Sandpipers, pelicans, and seagulls at dark,
The permanent parrots in old Pasadena,
And all the pigeons in the park.

It’s starting to snow. We gotta go.
Christmas in California.
Snow birds migrate when seasons change.
We pack the car and head home on the range.
It's getting way too cold, and we're getting old,
We're off to Christmas in California.

See ya next Spring.
